48_Contemporary Round Stainless Steel Balustrade & Oak Treads, Arlington VA 2220

A remarkable Architect/Builder selected us to help design, build and install his geometric/contemporary four-level staircase; definitively not a “cookie-cutter” stair design, capable to blend/accompany very well the geometric forms of the custom millwork found throughout the home, and the spectacular chef’s kitchen/adjoining light filled family room.  Since the architect’s goal was to allow plenty of natural light in at all times (staircase is located next to wall of windows), the stairs feature solid 2” oak treads with 4” nose extensions, absence of risers, and beautifully finished poplar stringers. 52_Minimalist & Floating Open-Riser White Oak Stairway, Arlington, VA 22207

The architect/builder decided to make a design statement by selecting 4" squared-off white oak treads, maintaining uniform open risers (up to code openings), and by matching the bold black-painted 3" routed-stringers with the clean and open 1/2"-round rigid horizontal bars. This thoughtful stair design takes into account the rooms/areas that surround the stairwell and it also brings plenty of light to the basement area. CSC © 1976-2020 Century Stair Company. 54_Dynamic and Open Wood and Metal Zig-Zag Staircase, Alexandria VA 22302

Century Stair met the architect's expectations by fabricating and installing a staircase that matched his aesthetic standards and high-end finishes; the clean and crisp zig-zag stringers were created by joining together modules of thick oak risers and nose less oak treads (fixed to the side walls with concealed joinery). A geometrical carpet selected by the owner, with subtle patterns and tones, makes this exquisitely proportioned stair work with the metal balustrade system and the home's elegant and eclectic interior design. 22_Stainless Steel & Dark Wooden Treads in Fabulous New Home, Vienna, VA 22180

Spanning three levels, this elegant modern staircase transforms light into a design element. Suspended by open risers, the dark wood treads appear to float between floors as natural light cascades from the top floor windows down through the entire stairwell. The horizontal stainless steel rods create clean, uninterrupted sightlines while emphasizing the architectural volume beneath the landings. The result is a vertical journey defined by transparency and light.
